Calshot beach forms part of a mile long shingle spit which reaches out into the mouth of Southampton Water. From here you get a great view of the ships coming and going from one of the UK’s largest ports.Beautiful rocky beach. Parking a few steps away. I arrived there at night, so an additional attraction was watching the illuminated ships sailing to the port.

This is one of my favourite beaches. I love this place because it’s not always packed. You know how it is when the temperature reaches 15 degrees in England and everyone with skin heads to the beach. We easily found a parking spot and a place on the beach. There were little patches of sand but mainly rock and shells. There was also something soft, brown and smelly too, so keep your eyes out. When you visit Calshot you can see some fantastic container ships and towering cruise liners. This is great for the little ones but I enjoy it too. They snake their way on a specific route which must be the deepest section towards the Isle Of Wight which you can see across the water. You can also see Portsmouth to the left. It’s a nice walk to along the coast and there is usually an ice cream van parked in the car park. Good idea to stock up on food and drinks when you pass the co-op on your way to the beach.
