Let's all goooooo, down to Dumas Walker . So you want to see and eat at the place known from the Kentucky HeadHunters hit song ? I did recently as we passed through this town while driving towards Memphis from Toronto. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when going in there but what I can tell you is my own personal experience. And yes of course it did include a slaw burger and a bottle of ski. The slaw burger review.. they were small but very delicious. Served on a soft bun and the slaw topping was light crunchy and delicious I also had American cheese on mine itcost only $2.95. the fries were a crinkle cut type fry they were light , crispy and lightly salted . Ski ? What is it ? I never tried it because it is t available in Canada . My 1st impression is it's very similar to 7 up or Sprite and it has a slightly more citrus taste to it. I really liked it and I wish that it was available here in Toronto. The decor of the place was old and outdated but that's okay it give it its own unique vibe.. if they did change and renovate this place and turn it into something new and trend you would no longer have that classic feel so I didn't mind one bit that it hadn't changed much since the mid 80s or early 90s. I was surprised by all the $1 bills that were plastered all over the entire restaurant by people dropping in and spending time there. You will see my bill posted right beside Elvis Presley right where it belongs ???? For me the star of the place is actually the people. This restaurant is owned and operated by two sisters who are very close and probably each other's best friend from what I could feel. They are extremely kind friendly outgoing and talkative. I could have sat there all day just listening to them chat and tell stories . It was probably the friendliest restaurant experience I've had in over 10 years. I say that with all sincerity. The local customers that have been going in there for years are also like family to this tiny restaurant. I really enjoyed meeting and talking with the locals that were in there with their families sharing stories about the town and the area. It's the perfect rest area if you're traveling around because there is a park across the street and there's a lot of other interesting and historical buildings nearby. Did you know that President Andrew Jackson once stayed at the hotel which is now a liquor store. And across the street from that is historical home to another historical figure in history during the civil war. Don't go do what I did and peek in the windows because somebody actually lives there now ????. Overall a great lunch experience.
Long drive from Louisville just to experience this restaurant and the ambiance. 9:00 am. Met with lights out-doors locked….no sign. HOurs are posted as 9 to 1 in some places and 5 AM to 10 AM in other places….so 9:00 am seemed a safe bet…..not really….definitely disappointed and won’t try again. Well got to see outside and peek in window…..thanks for nothing….
We visited Dumas Walker (a.k.a. Adolphus Ennis) in October 2019. It wasn't easy to find details online so I'm sharing what we learned so you can also enjoy a slaw burger, fries and a bottle of Ski, just like the KY Headhunters did :) The address of the restaurant is 113 S Public Square, Greensburg, KY 42743 and the hours are limited: 6am - 4pm CT Monday - Friday and 5am - 11am CT on Saturday. A very nice lady named Darlene runs the place now and we enjoyed our little taste of history!
Loved the food, service was good, loved the experience. Only small con- wish it had more of a connection to the head hunters and a tad bit of organization but Otherwise awesome experience and would definitely eat there again if i get the chance
A very memorable stop. It is what it is so, have an open mind. A fan of "Kentucky head hunters" music? A great little happy family operated place to get the famous Dumas Walker slaw burger (as in their song) Burger and slaw couldn't have been any better.
