No frills Chinese bakery that takes only cash. You can’t beat the prices here, but don’t expect attentive and patient service. Can get individual slices for cake for around $4, and full cakes under $30. Pretty good for an actual bakery. Also offer dim sum and hot dishes cooked on order.

This bakery and dim sum house has a few selections of classic dim sum offerings. I tried a few items including a BBQ steam bun, egg tart and meat dumpling. I was impressed with the egg tart. It was flaky and it had a sweet custard filling. We took to go rice with chicken foot and pork ribs in black bean. Overall, items are priced at around $2 or higher. You can easily spend $25 for two.

Wow!! I was craving a pineapple bun, so I walked in and was struck by how many choices there were. So many types of pastries, pineapple buns, coconut pastries, donuts, cakes, bao, savoury pastries. You pick your own, put it on the tray, and take it to the front. I paid ~$1.60 apiece for each pastry, which is an amazing price for a very large bun.

Cash only. Hong Kong Island Dim Sum House is a combination of self serve bakery and dim sum counter. As with all bakeries the selection has thinned greatly by 6pm. Pay for your baked goods and order any additional hot food at the counter. You are called as each item becomes ready, if they take longer to prepare you are warned when you order.

This was recommended to me as a cheaper alternative to juicy dumplings, but my goodness is this place awful. The dumplings are made fresh... sure, but they lack flavour, seasoning and juiciness (isn't that the whole point?). They also don't accept card, it's cash only. They also sell other items that I didn't try, but with what I saw. I don't think it's worth the try to be honest.
