Don’t let the appearance of this restaurant fool you! It may look run down and a bit scary, but the food is top-notch. I want to say that this is a great place to grab authentic Korean food in Fairbanks! I would definitely revisit Seoul Gate.
I have been going here for years with friends and family, unfortunately, that ends today. I ordered a vegetarian dish, asked specifically for no meat and meat was hidden under the surface. When I asked staff for a fix or discount (as I only ate about 1/4 of the top) they refused anything but a $4 discount. I have gotten the same dish for over 3 years repeatedly without issue until today. Unfortunately, I will not be returning due to no fix or offering to make a new dish.
Great food... its like a dive bar but authentic and fast food. #4 on the noodles is fabulous! JapChae
As excited as we were to try this restaurant, it was an expensive disappointment. From trying to figure out where to enter, to the glaring uncomfortable stares from the staff when we figured out where to walk in, to the cobwebs hanging over our table, it was not a good start. We needed 3 seats and a high chair, which we did make sure both the hostess and waitress knew, yet they sat us at a table on a raised floor and were told by the third waitress we couldn't have a high chair there. We finally sat down at the table someone pointed to. Although I appreciate their zeal to serve us, there was no time or break to actually decide what we wanted as FOUR different servers came to our table within a matter of minutes, three of them came twice, within 10 minutes. Not one server told us their name. We told them it was our first time there and asked a few questions but felt like we should have been ashamed to do so. I would have left but this is where my family had wanted to eat! The food was pretty good. Appitizers were well seasoned and a good variety However, some of the rolls were just tasteless, so be sure to order one that is well seasoned. The sesame chicken dinner was good - although the price we were charged was a few dollars more than the menu stated. So watch your ticket. They will definitely clear off the empty and seemingly empty plates, so be careful and there was no thank yous or courtesy upon paying the $125+ ticket. And then, on the way out of the door, my pregnant daughter tripped on the rug that is too wide for the doorway and is up off the ground! Thankfully she didn't fall. One last comment. Don't bring a toddler, they are not equipped nor welcoming of little ones. (We ate on the sushi side but won't go back to see how the other side is, don't want to take the chance).
You will not regret coming here!! I am confused by the other reviews because our group all had a great dining experience. The hidden basement vibe feels just like the real deal in Asia, and the service matches that: prompt yet blunt. The food is authentic & delicious & served boiling hot..and the portions are huge!! The bibimbap comes in a big hot stone bowl. I have leftovers for days... I HIGHLY recommend any of the soups!! The picture is of the Spicy Squid Bibimbap, it was incredible.
