Our first visit to the pub, which was an impromptu visit. So didn’t have a booking. But we were met by Andy at the front desk, who sat us down no problem. He was fantastic. Very personable. It was a busy lunch time but he made us feel very welcomed and relaxed. Food was fantastic and served in a very timely manor. We will definitely be back for the Sunday roasts that Andy recommend !
Traditional old pub with log fires and really low ceilings. Being over six foot is a challenge in parts of the pub. Good selection of beers and other drinks. Not the cheapest prices but the atmosphere is lovely. Well worth a visit if passing through.
Lovely old pub serving a great Sunday roast. Very pet friendly. Highly recommended. Mind your head !
Small but cozy pub. The staff is mainly friendly and bubbly. The food tastes Great, specially their Sunday roast. Their pasta portions is well larger than the average (serves 2 if you order some nibbles), but still tastes good. If you want a table inside, it’s better to book in advance. Specially for the table next to the log fire place. Having a pint when watching the sunset over the river it’s also great from there, despite there is a main road (A283) in front of the pub. There is also a garden on the back with some wooden tables/chairs. There is also road side parking on the back Not the best wheelchair accessibility.
I have not been to Red Lion for many years, popped in for a quick pint, and bite to eat on spur of the moment. It was a pleasant surprise, nice country pub feel, very welcoming hosts, good grub and warm atmosphere. Will not be leaving it so long next time.
