Food was good. I'd have liked a bit more spice on the ribs I had but they were well cooked. Enjoyed the garlic mushrooms quite a lot. Some portions looked massive. We were a big group and service was a little slow but perfectly understandable given the number of us. Bit of a Harry Potter theme going, perhaps just for half-term and/or Halloween.
Sunday lunch time, with perfectly cooked (finger friendly) Yorkshire Puddings and still-pink-in-middle roast beef, busy but not too much so, pub. We stopped here because it was on the Cask Marquee Ale Trail and we were guaranteed (supposedly) another perfect pint. While we were deciding on drinks, the views and nose seducing smells of the lunches being presented induced to have lunch here. Smart move, the roasts were salubrious. Unusually, the beer wasn't. Not really bad enough to complain about, perhaps getting near the end of the barrel, but we have had better Butcombe. Perhaps we should have mentioned it, but the food was so good.......
It was OK. Menu is huge, maybe a little too big. They basically do everything. Food just seemed cheap quality. Bottom eating area didn't even feel like a pub and there was zero atmosphere. Don't think I would go back.
