Very nice little pub. The food was extremely good with extensive menu and lots of specials. Portion size was huge. The barman was extremely polite and friendly but a little rushed of his feet (only one on out front) Good selection of beer, ale and cider and reasonable top shelf. Well recommended.
This pub used to be a really nice establishment. Under Leslie & Co it had a lovely welcoming atmosphere and upmarket feel. Since the new owners have taken over it has become more of an after thought, catering to a few mid week patrons and falling second behind the owner's car recovery/second hand business. The attendants of the local cricket club, located directly behind the pub, are forced to park on the outskirts of the pitch and when we visited, having parked in the pub car park for a brief walk, before returning for drinks, were greeted with an unnecessary and passive aggressive note on the windscreen warning us not to park in the pub car park unless spending money at the pub. There are situations where this would have been appropriate, but this was not one of them. It feels like the loss of a valued member of the community, looking bare on the inside with no character. So much potential, what a shame.
The Star is newly refurbished this year (2018), and has an amazing new chef - Lee. The menu is good quality pub fare with a specials board which varies according to seasonal produce. All the meat is sourced locally. We have eaten there regularly this year and always had an excellent meal, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere friendly with open fires in the winter.
