The Cumberland is a great local pub. Good prices and decent selection of beers. Staff are always welcoming and never without a smile.

Not a nice place. Most of the 'guests can't handle the amount they're (for some reason) allowed to drink whilst in the seemingly nonexistent care of the owners, inevitably spewing out onto the street in a pathetic abusive rabble. Innocent pedestrians and vehicles passing by are constantly abused verbally in the evenings. Cheap drum & bass, and the smell of low grade weed emanates from the upper windows after hours to early morning. Street level windows are always cracked.. I don't frequent the place, in fact I avoid it like the plague. I am just unlucky enough to live close by and see/hear the disgrace first hand. Constantly.

In desperate need of a make over now, this pub limps along somehow, it offers the full locals experience rarely changing for the better with subsequent landlords over the years.. but it could be amazing with some investment. Sadly no real ale, I understand why as it needs good churn to be viable. But....9 quid for a large white wine and pint of John Smith's...ouch. Saturday night and last orders are 10.30 and you get the feeling they want you out as the entertainment dies off from the perennial Dr. Funkenstein local dj extraordinare there is only so many times you can listen to Stevie Wonder on replay with a handful of punters to enjoy the toons. We supped up and went to the Sirlion where there was plenty of ale, cheaper, busier, friendlier and still serving nearer to 12. Also the barman in the Fort splendid in true garb of hoodie and baseball cap over his head looked like he was in there to rob the place not serve you mediocre drinks. Sadly, I love a local but price alone will now put me off. Sad. Ps I can't stand John Smith's.
